Serie A club AC Milan are currently one of the most successful Italian clubs and share a historic rivalry with Internazionale. They also share the San Siro with Inter. As far as kits are concerned, they are associated with red and black striped shirts, giving them their nickname Rossoneri. Their away shirts are either white or black, while the third kit has trended towards more vibrant colours in recent history.

Right from its inception A.C. Milan’s primary kit colours have been red and black. The colours represent the fiery passion the players channel on the field the red, and the black to intimidate their opponents. The red and black on the Milan shirt has always been vertically striped as was the style in England that the Milan founders adopted. During the fascist regime and in World War Two the shirt was changed to horizontal stripes, seen as a more Italian design.

AC Milan 23/24 Home Kit

For the 2023/24 Puma home kit, the bespoke Rossoneri look remained discernible, and arguably had a wider profile relative to last season’s home shirt. But what stood out in this particular kit was the continuous flow of chevrons from top to bottom, achieved through the interplay of the red and black stripes with the horizontal lines that contrast abstractly. The resulting stream of down arrows formed a nice symmetry with the black stripes to symbolically represent the letter ‘M,’ thus completing the influence of Milan and its people in the overall design.

2022/23 AC Milan Home Shirt

The Rossoneri wore their synonymous colours on their 2022/23 home shirt. The Puma-produced jersey and its chosen shades were the same as the Manchester City away for the same season, though obviously, the designs are different. Black was the base colour, making it easy for the shirt to produce the traditional look with the four red stripes on the front of the body panel. The famous pattern appeared to be boxed as it neither went over the shoulders nor reached the hemline. The jersey bore semblance with the 2000/01 home kit, especially with the sleeves left in black. Italian flag colours flowed through the sleeve cuffs, and the neckline had the unique construction where it separated on the front side to be connected together by an inner panel.

2021/22 AC Milan Home Shirt

The Puma home shirt of the Rossoneris for the 2021/22 season maintained the traditional red and black vertical striped pattern. What differentiated the jersey from the club’s previous striped shirts was that the central stripe had noticeable width while the rest went narrower and narrower as they approached the sides of the shirt. Like other Puma kits of its time, the v-necked shirt had underside panels, which were black in this case.

 

2020/21 AC Milan Home Shirt

AC Milan was one of the clubs to be given with Puma’s ‘Crafted from Culture’ home kit for the 2020/21 season. The home shirt featured alternating stripes of black and red on the main body. It was this striped pattern though that served as the background for the subtle renaissance graphic inspired by the floors of the Duomo. The sleeves were purely black and the said colour extended to the shoulders.

Alfred Edwards, a British expatriate, founded AC Milan in 1899 as the Milan Cricket and Football Club. In honour of its origins, the club has retained the English spelling of its city’s name, instead of changing it to the Italian Milano. The team’s current stadium is the 78,275 seater Giuseppe Meazza, which is also known as the San Siro. The stadium is shared with Internazionale (Inter), the other major football club in Milan. AC Milan supporters use ‘San Siro’ to refer to the stadium because Meazza was a star player for Inter Milan.

Milan has won a variety of European honours and domestic achievements, many on more than one occasion throughout the past few decades. Milan won the Serie A in the 2010-11 season and the squad boasted world class players including Stephan El Shaarawy, Riccardo Montolivo, Antonio Nocerino and Mario Balotelli.
